Since 1910 the small towns of Zossen and Wuensdorf (just south of Berlin) had a military character. Large barracks for soldiers and their family's were constructed, recruits were trained here before going to the battle-fields of the great- or world war. In 1939 the camp Zossen (nick-name Zeppelin) consisted of:
Maybach I: 12 for camo reasons 'A' shaped bunkers, Maybach II: 11 'A' shaped bunkers, Ambt Zeppelin: underground communication bunker with a telex room on the first floor and a telephone-exchange on the second floor. From 1939 to April 20, 1945 the complex was used by the O.K.H. (Generalstab des O.K.H. and the Wehrmacht Fuehrungsambt). After this period the complex was occupied and partly destroyed by Russian troops. After the war the 'Ambt-Zeppelin' bunker was being used by the Soviet high-command and by the Russian forces. 50,000 were housed on the compound. In 1994 the last Russians left leaving a vast complex behind.
